Her eyebrows furrowed, as she tried to think. Honestly, her answer probably wasn’t maybe the best one, but… when she thought about it, it was all she had. She thought she was from Gotham. But she couldn’t really remember where Gotham was or what Gotham was like. Which was kinda um, unsettling? Not just kinda, really unsettling. Why couldn’t she remember the town where she grew up? It wasn’t like she ever really left there except for when she was- When she was-what? Why couldn’t she finish her own thoughts? Come on, Steph, think. When she was in Africa? That sounded right, but she didn’t know why. It’s not like her family would take a vacation to Africa or something. After all, they weren’t exactly rich. Rather, her dad was always- Wait, she had a dad? Well, duh, of course she did, but she hadn’t thought of him until now. Kay, something was definitely up.
“I think I am,” she repeated, “And okay, so this isn’t likely the first thing I’d like to talk about with a stranger, but y’know whatever, but anyways it’s not clear… I can’t really remember. I know I grew up in a city, and I think I remember telling someone here it was Gotham, but I can’t remember anything about the place. And like I said, when I woke up, I was dressed like this. I mean, it is like perfectly my size and no one else seemed to have woke up in a random costume, so maybe it is mine? But if it is, I don’t know that it is. I don’t even know why it would be mine. I… just can’t remember.”
Jason wasn’t exactly known for his patience, more like for his lack of patience and the fact that he wouldn’t waste his time on anyone who might not have been of interest. He thought that he remembered seeing this girl before, he might have seen her jumping on rooftop with her cape flowing back, just like Batman, before, but he couldn’t exactly remember. It was bugging him, especially since the only Bat Girl he knew that belonged in Batman Inc was a red head, another red head with history with Grayson, how surprising. She seemed lost, but he didn’t exactly sympathise; all of them were lost in one way or another anyway.
He rubbed his temples; she was rambling a lot, it was annoying, Harper level of annoying. He was the silent one, Kori spent so much time being confused and Roy talked a lot; their little team sure was interesting. "You can’t remember? Did you ask for your memory to get wiped? I did before, you probably have a good reason why. You’re from Gotham and you’re wearing this costume, yet you don’t remember why or how. That’s interesting..”, he mumbled. Something didn’t seem right, she couldn’t fake this, even though he didn’t like how she seemed to change her mind and being indecisive. “I’ve seen a Bat Girl wearing something similar before. Maybe you’re related to her.”
Hey, he was actually kinda cute once you got past the whole wardrobe thing. Totally her type. Older than her, maybe, but not by much. But more than that he reminded her of someone… Maybe an ex-boyfriend? Whatever, it didn’t really matter right now.
“Much better. Oh, wait, should I take off my hood thingie too or? I guess that’d be polite, huh, like taking your hat off when you’re indoors…”
She reached up to grab it, but stopped herself. Maybe she should keep it on, actually. It was just a gut feeling she had.
“Anyways. I don’t-” Know where that is… was what she was going to say, but she did, didn’t she? When she first arrived in the city, she had met this guy from Gotham. He was a detective and they- They bonded over the fact they were both from there. So, she was from Gotham.
“I’m from Gotham. I think. But… I still don’t know who that guy is. He sounds pretty silly, actually.”
And there she was, stilling wearing that cowl; not that it would help him realise who she was, he couldn’t remember meeting anyone like her before, and she claimed not to be related to Batman, yet wearing his outfit and the bat on her chest.
She wasn’t from Gotham, didn’t know where that was, yet she was wearing that and carrying an utility belt. He found it hard to believe, and when she said that she was from Gotham, he frowned.
He didn’t like to messed with, and she was clearly doing that; either she had one of the worst cases of memory losses, not that he was the one to talk, when he forgot all bout Kori and Roy not too long ago.
“So you’re from Gotham or what?”, he huffed. “That’s a lot coming from someone dressed just like him.”, he said, pointing at her costume.
… What. She did not understand like half of the words that came out of this guy’s mouth. Maybe more. And why was he dressed like that? Not that she could say anything, but… was there a costume party or something?
“Um, who’s Batman? And I don’t know who you are. Pretty sure I’d remember some weirdo in a red Halloween mask.”
Actually, that did sound kinda familiar. She remembered a weird guy in a leather jacket, and here was a weird guy in a leather jacket. But the rest of it was really fuzzy for some reason.
Jason narrowed his eyes. Did she just claim that she had no idea who Batman was? Despite wearing a cowl, the bat on her chest and having an utility belt? He felt a strange kind of deja vu, but he shook it away, thinking for a moment before raising his hands and taking off the helmet to take a better look at her.
“Is this any better?”, he asked with a snort. “Gotham. That’s where he comes from. One would assume that you’re related to him, he dresses up like a stupid bat too.”
“Um, did anyone else wake up in a costume? I mean, I know these scientists are weird… But really, a catsuit? That’s a little too kinky for me, honestly.”
“That bat costume is enough to put anyone off. Why are you dressed like Batman?Let me guess, he send you to get me? Hah.”
